Liverpool Women part company with manager after three-and-a-half year spell

After three and a half years, women of Liverpool broke up with manager Matt Beard.

Beard leaves his second spell in Liverpool – after a successful first stint between 2012 and 2015 where he delivered two ladies Super League titles – with the club in seventh place in the top flight of the ladies.

Beard joined in 2021 and reached promotion to the WSL in his first season. His last game The leadership was a 4-0 defeat against Man City on February 16.

“We have all experienced a number of fantastic moments with Matt as manager of LFC women and we express our gratitude for his important contribution,” read a statement from Liverpool.

“Our priority was to bring this team back to where it belongs and we achieved it together in 2022 by winning promotion to the WSL.

“We have to build on at that momentum and although this has been a difficult decision, we believe that it offers us the best chance for future success on the field.”

Liverpool has announced that Amber Whiteley has taken immediate effect as an interim manager.
