Liverpool’s true feelings on Alexander-Arnold future after Madrid’s £20m move

Liverpool are still waiting for Trent Alexander-Arnold to sign a new contract before the summer.

The Reds right-back has entered the final six months of his contract and will be free to leave once the season is over. He could already sign a pre-contract deal with a foreign team as Real Madrid continue to circle.

Los Blancos have made a bid in a bid to tempt Liverpool, who could lose the player for nothing within months. Their £20 million offer was quickly rejected. The feeling of being Alexander-Arnold is worth more to them at the business end of the season.

Arne Slot's side are well at the top of the Premier League and remain in contention for every other competition. Alexander-Arnold has claimed all the glory he can at Anfield and some believe he now wants a new challenge, but the hometown club have not given up hope of a deal.

It is understood the player himself has given Liverpool chiefs no indication that he wants to join Real, the current Champions League holders, despite an offer from the Spanish giants. The Reds have given Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk the opportunity to enter the final months of their contracts.

Speculation is still rife, but the academy graduate insisted all discussions would take place privately. He said: “I have been at the club for 20 years and have signed four or five contract extensions… and none of them have played out in public. This one won't be either.”

Jamie Carragher, who has warned Alexander-Arnold of the danger of ruining his legacy at Liverpool if he leaves, believes Real's offer has been drawn up by both parties, allowing them to cover themselves if he leaves for free.

He said on social media: “The most important thing for @LFC in 2025 is winning the #PremierLeague. No one's contract or future should stand in the way of that! I love Trent as a boy and as a player, but his team would.” I told Real Madrid to bid and I also knew that LFC would reject it. It's to cover himself if he leaves for free.'

Slot was keen to shut out the noise surrounding his players' futures as the team flies high. Reports claim Van Dijk and Salah are nearing new two-year deals.
