Lloris: Time for Tottenham to build on Europa League success

Hugo Lloris wants Tottenham to build on their Europa League success with more trophies.

The French goalkeeper spent 11 seasons with Spurs and was captain of the side, but failed to win silverware in his 447 performances.

The North London club ended a 17-year waiting time for a trophy when they beat 1-0 1-0 1-0 in the Europa League final last season.

It also ended an almost 41-year-old spell without a European trophy, after their UEFA Cup success 1983-84

Lloris believes that traces have a great opportunity to insist on more titles that have ended their trophy -dried.

“I am really satisfied,” said Lloris. “I am really happy for the club, for the people in the club, for the players.

“We walked many, many years after this trophy, and in the end they got it, and I think they deserve it.

“They had a very difficult season. They also had many injuries that influenced the team and the performances, and I think it seems to be all-in for the Europa League in the second part of the season.

“Hopefully it will make their shoulders a little lighter for the future, and I think it is also the time to build on this success for Spurs. Even if I am not a Spurs player, I still follow the news, the team and the results.”

Despite winning the Europa League, Ange Postecoglou was fired just over two weeks later by the club and replaced by Thomas Frank.

Lloris said that Postecoglou earns a lot of credit, but can understand why Spurs chose to get Frank.

“What Ange Postecoglou did was just remarkable,” added Lloris.

“He brought this Europa League trophy, he brought a lot of joy to the Spurs community, also a lot of pride, and we must all be grateful for that.

“I am not here to discuss the choice [of Tottenham’s new head coach]. He is a respected coach. He did great with Brentford.

“Now, like every coach, when you arrive in a new club, there is a new environment that you have to embrace. But if the club decided to name him, it is probably because they decide that this is best for the future.”
