London City Lionesses were promoted to the Women's Super League for the first time in their history after winning the title of the Women's Championship.
The side established in Bromley drew 2-2 with the second place Birmingham on the last day of the season to seal their place in the WSL for the 2025/26 season and the title.
They will replace colleague Zuid -London Crystal Palace, which have been banned from the best women's competition in England.
It will be a first performance in the WSL for London City, which was formed in 2019 after they have been demolished from Millwall to set up a new team as a separate entity.
Isobel Goodwin's beautiful solo effort of Long Range and the goal of Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah was enough to seal their ascension at the WSL in the afternoon, despite the fact that Birmingham fides back through the efforts of Emily van Egmond and the late volley of So-Hyun Cho.
They have participated in the Women's Championship in the last five seasons and their promotion represents a grim turn of the 2023/24 season, when the Lionesses finished eighth. They had finished second and third in the two previous campaigns.
It is also another success for Michele Kang, which is described as 'the first Tycoon women's football'.
The businesswoman bought the club in December 2023 and is also the owner of NWSL side Washington Spirit and eight times Women's Champions League winners Lyon.
All three clubs are managed under its company, Kynisca Sports International, which offers the teams a centralized opportunity to share science, technology, scouting and personnel development.
Kang's intention to make London City a success in England, perhaps the best demonstrated last summer, when the club signed the Swedish captain asllani – who previously represented Man City and Real Madrid – and has appointed former PSG boss Jocelyn Precheur.
The club will now try to participate in the WSL and to avoid an immediate return to the championship such as Bristol City and Crystal Palace have done the last two campaigns.
