The past few years have been hellish for Vitolo Machin as he had not played a single minute of football since the 2022/23 season (when he was loaned to Las Palmas). A succession of injury problems has kept him unavailable for action, and now the inevitable has happened.
Vitolo announced in recent days on the podcast Actitud Constante (via MD) that he will retire from professional football at the age of 35. He called his miserable injury problems decisive.
“Eventually I was having such a bad time with the injuries that I said I wanted to disappear from everyone a little bit and be with my family. I had three surgeries and it took nine to 10 months to recover from each one.”
Vitolo was a free agent after leaving Atletico Madrid in the summer. He first joined Los Colchoneros in 2017, although he was reduced to just 101 appearances, his last in red and white in the 2020/21 season.
