Match report
Wallace Yan insured a dramatic last-gasp draw for CR Flamengo, only two minutes after Denis Bouanga thought he had achieved Lafc's first victory of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025.
This game was a dead rubber, already eliminated with Lafc and confirmed Flamengo as winners of Group D. But they played a very entertaining affair at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, in which the woodwork was made incredible five times.
The game originated almost immediately when the post was hit three times in the first 15 minutes, by Flamengo stars Danilo and Giorgian de Arascaeta, as well as Lafc -midfielder Marky Delgado. Then, in the half hour, Flamengo Pedro rattled the bar after Lafc goalkeeper Hugo Lloris was wounded on the floor after collision with one of his defenders.
The frame of the goal was struck for the fifth time and against the fourth time by Flamengo-in the 69th minute when the Arascaeta ping the bar with a powerful immersing long-distance effort.
A scoreless draw seemed inevitable before Bouanga freed to give Lafc a shock ahead in the 84th minute, but Wallace Yan broke the hearts of the Major League Soccer Club a little later with a stylish finish.
With this draw, Lafc has finished their Club World Cup campaign on something of a high note when they fought to their first point. In the meantime, Flamengo remained unbeaten to keep their momentum before their round-of-16 draw with FC Bayern Munich at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on Sunday 29 June.
Lafc head coach Steve Cherundolo says: “I am not at all disappointed with the effort of our boys, they put everything in this game, they played smartly, with passion. We knew we would have opportunities. We missed a bit of calm in the last third, but our set pieces were dangerous and we defended as lions.
