Spain -Baas Luis de la Fuente wants to go back as a qualification for the World Cup 2026 starts in September.
The place of La Roja in the final series of the UEFA Nations League of June means that their urge to qualify for the World Cup will be pressed into three autumn windows.
A defeat of the Penalty Shootout against Portugal in the Nations League final was the first low point of the La Fuente's rule as a senior team boss – after winning the tournament in 2023 – followed by success in the UEFA Euro 2024 final against England last summer.
However, the experienced coach does not let any negativity crawl in his thinking, while looking ahead to September and reminds some important ones of Bulgaria and Turkey.
De La Fuente chose the Nations League for the Nations League last month with the midfielder just back from an ACL injury for the calling for Manchester City star.
Pep Guardiola asked that he would be omitted to build to the club World Cup and De la Fuente agreed – but his crucial metronome will be back in the next international break.
“We can already see Rodri go back in the game, and I hope Dani [Carvajal] Also plays in the club World Cup. If they are available, they will of course be with us, “according to Marca.
“Two geniuses on and next to the field. It is a source of pride for the national team and myself to be able to count on it.”
De la Fuente again offered his support to Captain Alvaro Morata – after a difficult year at club level – and a missed penalty in the shootout loss for Portugal.
Morata admitted that he is considering his future, but De La Fuente counts on the former star Atletico Madrid, if he chooses to stay.
“Morata is the best, he comes when he wants. The door is open to him. Whatever he needs, the national team is behind him. He is incredibly important on and next to the field.
“If he feels good and wants to come, perfect. If he can't do that, Alvaro knows that he is always welcome. The most important thing is that he is good, so whatever he wants and needs.”
