Luis Diaz came to Liverpool of Porto in 2022 and the Portuguese giants were commissioned to pay € 103 to the former club of Diaz, Junior de Barranquilla, after a ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport
Liverpool -star Luis Diaz is central to a lawsuit involving two of his former clubs, instructing Porto to pay Junior the Barranquilla € 103 (£ 86). Diaz came through the Junior Academy before he left to reach Porto in 2019.
The deal included a clause of 20 percent sales and when Diaz arrived at Liverpool at Porto in 2022 for € 45 million (£ 37.5 million), Junior would earn a considerable part of the reimbursement. Liverpool agreed to pay in Porto in installments, which means that Junior also received their payments in installments.
However, there was a dispute about the third episode and a claim was submitted to FIFA in 2022 that went all the way to the court of arbitration for Sport (CAS).
CAS ruled that Porto Junior should have paid € 1,020,000, but they only paid € 1,019,897.
As a result, they have been instructed to repay the outstanding € 103 plus five percent interest until 1 October 2022.
The future of Diaz in Liverpool is now in the air with the wing player who concerns the last two years of his contract this summer. His current deal is the same deal that he signed when he initially came to Porto, although contract clauses mean that his wage has risen.
However, Barcelona is strongly connected to a movement for Diaz and it is still to be seen what the future entails for the attacker. So far, this season, he has scored nine Premier League goals in 28 games, while Liverpool does the title close by, although five of them came in his first five performances.
Reds -Baas Arne Slot, however, hopes that Diaz will end the season at a peak after scoring two goals while he was recently left at the international duty for Colombia. “The mental break comes more of you to go to a different environment with different teammates,” Slot said when he was asked about the international break.
“For that reason it might have been a good time after you lost two games, [because] If you then stay in your club, you have to win the next game, but if you go to your national team, it is new again and it is the same if you go from the Premier League to the Champions League.
“It's a different competition. Maybe that helped too. I know, for example, they have the Dutch team, they played Spain [in] Two great games. England also had two games, maybe not the best to play, but they both won them.
“It's always fun when the players go to a different environment and then come back to us after a good experience. For example, Lucho Diaz had two goals [and] Cody Gakpo had a goal, so a few of our players were again in a very good way. “
Liverpool will be back in action tonight when they organize Everton in the Merseyside Derby in Anfield, with the Reds who want to go back to winning ways after they had been beaten by Paris Saint-Germain from the Champions League and were beaten by Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final.
