Luis Enrique eyeing PSG history after signing contract extension

Luis Enrique wants to write history in Paris Saint-Germain after signing a two-year contract extension with the Ligue 1-side.

The Spaniard arrived in the Parc des Princes in 2023, succeeded Christophe Galtier and then won a domestic Treble in his first season at the helm.

Since then he has won 58 of his 86 games in all competitions (D18 L10), on average a profit rate of 65.88% at the time.

The newest triumph from Luis Enrique for PSG saw the third placed Monaco crush 4-1 on Friday, so that the Parisiens 13 points were clearly moved on the top of the Ligue 1 table.

And after the victory, he expressed his gratitude for the confidence that the club has placed in him and said he was motivated to leave an inheritance in Paris.

“From the first day, the club has made everything at our disposal and the support ensures that I only want to continue to work and improve,” said Luis Enrique.

“We want to write history here as a coaching staff.

“I don't know how long I will be here, if you feel at ease where you are and you feel the trust of the people around you. Why make limits for yourself?

“I am very happy for that support, I hope to pay it back with hard work. I don't know or results.”

The PSG boss, however, denied that the convincing victory of his party that was the undefeated start of the campaign maintained the best of their season so far.

The Luis Enrique team registered an expected goals (XG) a total of 3.14 to 1 of Monaco, while he also enjoyed 64% owned during the competition in the Parc des Princes.

PSG has now lost none of their first 21 Ligue matches in 2024-25 (W16 D5) for the third time in their history (after 1985-86 and 2015-16).

In the meantime, Luis Enrique has only had two defeats ago in his first 55 Ligue 1 matches that are in charge (W38 D15), the lowest count at this stage for a PSG coach.

“I don't think we had our best game, I didn't like the last 10-15 minutes, we didn't take the ball away from Monaco and we had some difficulties,” he said.

“The first half was very right, it was hard to put pressure on them. In the second half we could do more damage and eventually we deserved the victory, but it was very difficult as always against Monaco.”

PSG will now focus their attention on the play-offs of the Champions League Knock-out, where they will be confronted with colleague Ligue 1 Side Brest on Tuesday.

The Luis Enrique team took care of their place in the second round of the competition with a 4-1 thrashing from Stuttgart after a slow start in the new 36-team League phase.

The Spaniard said those struggles had strengthened the team in their search for a coveted First Champions League title.

“We have experienced it all, those delicate moments when only our fans believe in us are great because they have given us adults in a young team,” he said.

“We will never stop fighting. That is our goal this season: fight until the last minute of every competition to try to write history.”
