Luis Enrique issues UCL final challenge ahead of Inter Milan fixture

Paris Saint-Germain is facing Inter Milan in Munich on Saturday evening in front of the Champions League, the trophy that Les Parisiens has missed since their Qatari tanning changed the face of football

Paris Saint-Germain boss Luis Enrique has challenged his players to write himself in the history of the club by winning the Champions League. The French champions PSG will be confronted on Saturday evening with Italian second place Inter Milan in Allianz Arena in Munich with the biggest prize of European club football at stake.

Enrique insists that his double -winning team deserves to be in the final, but knows that all their efforts will ultimately count for nothing if they do not continue to wait for the trophy they have appreciated for so long.

In a video clip on the official X account of the club, Enrique said: “There is only one match left. There are only two teams left in the Champions League, Inter and US. Inter is a more experienced team than we do.

“There is no doubt that they earn it to be Champions League finalists, and I think we can be proud of what we have achieved.

“But we have to finish the job because our goal is to go into history.”

PSG, who were defeated by Bayern Munich in the 2020 final, have dominated domestic football in France in recent years, but the success of Champions League has remained elusive.

This season's campaign was far from simple, they had to win their last three competition phase matches against RB Salzburg, Manchester City and Stuttgart to book a last 16 play-off against Brest and then walked past the Premier League side Liverpool, Aston Villa and Arsenal to reach München.

Enrique said: “If we analyze everything that happened this season in the Champions League, it would be a great thriller or horror film or even a very good series because there has been a little bit of everything, of the very first home game against Girona, when we earn it to win for the 90th minute and take advantage of a fault.

“We earned better results in every competition in the competition phase, especially at home, but we didn't get them.

“Then the last three games of the competition phase only had four points – four points – and we were more out than in. If you don't score goals, you don't win games.”
