Luis Enrique wants better game management from his players after late goal

Paris Saint-Germain Head Coach Luis Enrique has called for better game management of his players after their 3-2 victory to Lyon on Sunday.

The visitors themselves had set two goals to go in the second half of the stop time before a 92nd minute goal of Corentin Tolisso led to late drama.

But they could hold, so that their winning run in all competitions in all competitions was expanded and their undefeated Ligue 1 campaign was maintained. PSG also extended their lead to 13 points.

While Luis Enrique was happy with another dominant version, he acknowledged that they lost control of the match against the sixth placed Lyon and had to defend their benefits until the end.

“The second half started with a good intensity, we scored two goals, but there were two important moments when we continued to speed up the piece and goals,” he said a press conference.

“If you play too much with your heart, your head will stop working and with an advantage of two goals you have to control the game. If there is a team that has already lost, there are risks.

“The game became complicated at the end and in the last few minutes there was a feeling to defend by overloading, which in my opinion is not the best way to defend.”

This victory was PSG's first match since Haming Brest 7-0 in the Champions League Knock-Out Play-Offs in Midweek, which resulted in a 10-0 aggregated victory. Luis Enrique was happy with the mentality of his team to keep winning, after he had not lost since November.

“Our idea has been to play offensive football from the start. We are looking for players to offer fans not only victories and titles, but also an attractive way of playing,” he said.

“Today the team continued to improve. In terms of personality, the team grew in a match that was tense, the second half was great in terms of emotional and physical control.

“The competition went crazy and if you win, you can't go crazy, but I think the team grew again in personality and character today.”

Next to PSG is a visit to the fourth Tier Stade Briochin in the quarterfinals of Coupe de France on Wednesday.
