Luka Modric sets fresh Real Madrid record after late Valencia show

Real Madrid endured a chaotic return to La Liga, climbing to the top of the table in early 2025.

Los Blancos recorded a sensational late 2-1 comeback win in Valencia on a dramatic night at the Estadio Mestalla.

The visitors were 1-0 down in the final ten minutes when Vinicius Junior was sent off for a duel with Stole Dimitrievski.

However, after the row surrounding the dismissal, captain Luka Modric was introduced from the bench and the Croatian scored the equalizer.

Jude Bellingham's 95th-minute winner punished a Valencia mistake as Modric set another milestone for Madrid.

In October, at the age of 39 years and 40 days, he broke Ferenc Puskas' record as the oldest player to make a competitive appearance for the club.

His goal in Valencia wipes out the Hungarian's other title as oldest goalscorer, with Modric now taking the crown at 39 years, 3 months and 23 days.

The match was also Modric's 561st for the club, moving him into joint 10th place on the all-time list.
