Romelu Lukaku has revealed that he wanted to leave the international duty with Belgium after their Euro 2024 output through France.
Lukaku, who is currently editing his trade in Napoli, where he scored 10 goals in 29 performances this season, has been a staple of the arrangement of Belgium for a number of years.
He was part of what had been considered to be the golden generation for the nation in recent years, but a group that has won nothing among the will of Marc Wilmots, Roberto Martinez and Domenico Tedesco.
In total, the former Star of Chelsea and Manchester United has played 120 times for his country since he made his debut at the age of only 16 in 2010, 85 times letters and eventually became more than one occasions captain.
However, not all has been rosy. The exit of Belgium in the hands of France at Euro 2024 in the round of 16 phase left a bitter taste in a number of Belgian mouths and led to the departure of Tedesco, with Rudi Garcia appointed in his place to lead the new era.
However, that era was almost without Lukaku. Speaking in international duty this week prior to the matches on his side against Ukraine in the play-offs of the Nations League, the attacker revealed how he was tempted to fully give up the international task.
“I thought about stopping after the euro and the loss to France,” said Lukaku. 'I was very frustrated and told Jan Vertonghen that I no longer felt it.
“They happened too quickly. But I couldn't leave my country. '
He also focused on former coach Tedesco, who was in charge of February 2023 until the tournament last year. Some players had frustrated his efforts, with goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois refused to play under him because of a CaptainCy row.
Lukaku opened the battle of Euro 2024 and the difficulties with which he and his team had to do, which eventually led to the resignation of the former boss.
“During tournaments I concentrate completely on the team,” he added. 'Afterwards it was difficult to digest the euros.

In the meantime, Courtois revealed that he was confrontation with his Belgian teammates after a controversial return to the national team.
Courtois, 32, was absent on the Belgian side for almost two years after his spit with Tedesco in June 2023.
