Luke Littler sends message to Man Utd transfer target hours before darts clash

Luke Littler has come up with a brilliant way for Manchester United to beat their Premier League rivals with the arrival of Dani Olmo.

The Barcelona midfielder could be available in January after the Catalan giants failed to sign him for the second half of the season. He could leave Camp Nou for nothing.

That news has caused a lot of fuss among clubs interested in the former RB Leipzig playmaker. United are among those keeping an eye on him, with Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester City and Chelsea all in the running.

There is also interest from abroad. But Littler – who reached the semi-finals of the PDC World Championship on Wednesday – believes he knows how the Red Devils could sign him. Hours before beating Nathan Aspinall 5-2 at Alexandra Palace on Instagram, he wrote: “6 months on loan at United,” alongside a photo of Olmo.

It is not the first time that Littler has had his say about the transfer activities of his youth club. He also urged United to re-sign former goalkeeper David De Gea as Andre Onana endured a difficult run of form.

“Bring Dave back,” Littler wrote in a deleted social media post, along with a glove emoji. And while the 17-year-old wants to see some business at Old Trafford in January, he may be left frustrated.

Boss Ruben Amorim recently admitted that players must leave the club before players come in. Last month he said: “We won't have that option in January if we don't sign (sell) some players. So you know the situation better than I do.

“So it's not like I come here and I can spend a lot of money on changing the whole team. You know the situation, so there's no point in talking about it.”

Littler surprisingly showed his loyalty for a new Premier League during his victory over Aspinall. Despite being a United fan, he imitated Chelsea icon Didier Drogba's celebration, but there was a simple explanation.

“My buddy has been bugging me to do it for months and he was in the crowd tonight and as I was walking away I looked at him and he was busy with the party so I did it,” Littler said. “It comes from FIFA.”

Littler returns to action on Thursday as he attempts to book his place in a second World Cup final. In the last four he will face Stephen Bunting.
