Madrid 3-1 City (6-3 agg) – PLAYER RATINGS: Who was targeted as the weak link?

Manchester City was given a lesson because they were dumped on Wednesday evening by an unbridled Real Madrid from the UEFA Champions League.

Kylian Mbappe was the star of the show, because his hat trick took care of the time of the city in this tournament in the Spanish capital.

He scored the first of his and Real Madrid with a lob after four minutes and the city never recovered from that moment and offered almost no threat in attack.

The ability of Carlo Ancelotti to juggle so many egos in the dressing room of Real Madrid underlines his quality as one of the best managers ever and he has again contrary to lifting this trophy.

For the city this is again a crushing blow in a difficult season that has brought many more lows than it has.

Nathan Salt from Mail Sport rides the rule over the two parties …

Real Madrid (4-2-3-1)

Thibaut Courtois – 6

Was a spectator for the first half when a flat -manchester City side did not succeed in forcing a savings from him. Things hardly became much more difficult in the second half when the side of Pep Guardiola seemed to everyone, but throwing it in the towel. Ultimately admitted a tap-in as a late consolation.

Federico Valverde – 8

Mr. Reliable for Real Madrid and the captain of Los Blancos came back Trumps again immediately. One of the most underrated players in world football is his quality in the biggest games. Produced a number of crosses from the right that earned a better finish.

Antonio Rudiger – 7

Would have enjoyed the physical fight against Erling Haaland, but that wouldn't be the case. Perhaps they felt susceptible to pace with Omar Marmoush supposedly the border, but this was a simple night for him and the Real Madrid -Backline.

Raul Asencio – 7.5

Had the freedom of the Bernabeu to cut a long ball over the top to choose Mbappe for the opening goal. Produced a thunderous challenge at Omar Marmoush in the penalty area that attracted huge parties. A good defender.

Ferland Mendy – 6.5

City tried to get some joy on his part, knowing very well that they would not get a change in Valverde on the other side. Won more fights than he lost and he knows very well that he does not have to shine when he is surrounded by so many superstars at Ballon d'Or level.

Aurelien Tchouameni – 8

Operated on as a center back in the first stage but restored to the central midfield here. So composed and they are absolutely no surprise clubs in England, such as Liverpool, see him signing as a Dream -Middenveld. Bad luck not to have helped Mbappe with a delicious chip about the city defense in the first half.

Dani Ceballos – 6.5

The former Arsenal loan now looks reborn and is in this side on merit. Brings great energy to this Real Madrid side and that is why he is Luka Modric and Eduardo Camavinga in the thinking of Carlo Ancelotti.

Rodrygo – 8.5

Just a pleasure to look at. He is so direct and is fluent that opponents confuses – including Man City. Drive in of the right to play No. 10 for spells and City had no answer to him. Every winger in world football should study the Brazilian to do it at an elite level.

Jude Bellingham – 6.5

Booked for a frustrated challenge on Phil Foden. He took a rear seat roll in this game while the superstars around him were in the turn of the spotlight. He is now at a difficult moment in the midst of the furore around his recent red card in Laliga, but he hardly had to come from the second gear on a comfortable evening against a poor city side.

Vinicius JNR – 8

Offers one of the most difficult assignments in world football, he is so difficult with his speed and his skills. Khusanov -nightmares gave time and time again and it became Wreeder when he collaborated with Mbappe to stack further misery on the young defender. His performance earned a goal.

Kylian Mbappe – 9

A real sensational display on the occasion of his 21st hat trick for Club and Country and his third in the Champions League. He Loft Edererson to score 26 goals in 38 games this season and then did brilliant to sit Josko Gvardiol for his 27th. Phil Foden attacked the right side, Stepover then curled into the corner for his 28th. Work at a totally different level than the players of the city.

Manager: Carlo Ancelotti – 8

Again underlines why he is the Master Man manager. How he can get so many egos in one dressing room to move in the right direction must be studied. The best of the best when it comes to this kind of job – and it is exactly why Real Madrid is again a favorite to win the Champions League.

Subs

Eduardo Camavinga (for Dani Ceballos, 78)

Brahim Diaz (for Kylian Mbappe, 78)

Luka Modric (for Aurelien Tchouameni, 83)

Endrick (for Vinicius JNR, 90)

David Alaba (for Federico Valverde, 90)

Manchester City (4-2-3-1)

Ederson – 5

Could hardly be accused of Mbappe's few first half goals that were uncovered by his defenders. Too easily beaten for Mbappe's hat trick goal, but he was on the list of problems on a echoing night.

Abdukodir Khusanov – 5

Starting in the Champions League for the first time, Khusanov became Real Madrid's target when Vinicius JNR and Jude Bellingham took turns in turn of the right side of the city. A long, long night.

John Stones – 4

His night was over after five minutes after a harmless challenge of Vinicius JNR. Miscommunication with Ruben Dias saw neither close to Kylian Mbappe – of all people – to open the score. Boost that he walked away, instead of being removed on a stretcher.

Ruben Dias – 6

The Captain of the Man City got his positioning terribly wrong to let Mbappe go on goal before he was beating with Ederson. He did recover and was the best city substitute in the night, making a number of crucial defensive blocks to keep the score low.

Josko Gvardiol – 5.5

Was embarrassed by Kylian Mbappe when he lay on the ground when the Frenchman walked in his second goal of the night. Is a top player, but it is made to look more and more.

Nico Gonzalez – 5

Too much time spent a fight with the referee about foolish mistakes and must have had to spend more time trying to struggle some control in a difficult midfield fight. Scored a late comfort to give the traveling fans something to cheer.

Ilkay Gundogan – 6.5

Bears a lot of responsibility on his shoulders alongside younger opponents. Could not influence the game, as many know that he can be as great on stage as this one. Booked for a late challenge on Rodrygo.

Phil Foden – 4

For a player of his talent, this was far under the required levels if the city would land a bloody nose on teams that are as stacked as Real Madrid. Thibaut Courtois left the gloves, but this game washed him over.

Bernardo Silva – 4

Was here anonymous, apart from a few flash light, including the flaring of the bar when Dani Ceballos had pain on the floor. His influence on games seems to fade by the week.

Savinho – 5

For a direct runner who was as difficult as he, he took some incredibly strange positions that easily split him. Saw the lively in the city attack, but the bar was incredibly low.

Omar Marmoush – 4

Hero to zero. His hat trick against Newcastle United at the weekend was sublime, but it was easy to forget that he even played in the Bernabeu. A complete non-entity in front of Pep Guardiola that leads the line.

Manager: Pep Guardiola – 4.5

It passes a season that further underlines that this group seems to have gone as far as possible as a constructed. A rebuilding, even larger than that in January, looks crucial for the summer.

Subs

Nathan Ake (for John Stones, 8) – 6

James McATEE (For Phil Foden, 77)

Mateo Kovacic (for Ilkay Gundogan, 77)
