Harry Maguire admits that the players of Manchester United must take their share of blame for the 'mess' in Old Trafford this season because they did not adapt to Ruben Amorim when he replaced Erik ten Hag in November.
Maguire has been one of the success stories of a difficult season and in recent weeks gained the headlines for his latest gasp winner in the 5-4 victory over Lyon in the quarter-finals of the Europa League before he became a wing player to set up Casemiro's Opener in the 3-0 semi-finale win on Thursday evening.
But the defender of England is of the opinion that the players should be held responsible for some problems at United after Amorim admitted that winning the Europa League could not save the club's season.
“It would not save the season because I think it is disappointing,” Maguire said.
'There have been too many games that we have lost, far too inconsistent. It was a bit of a mess in the middle of the season, the transition period that we don't have good enough to have the American players good.
'We did not take responsibility well enough from moving manager to manager and we took too long to bed in new ideas.
'It has been a difficult season, but football is of course about memories, it's about creating memories, it's about winning trophies and we have a great opportunity to win a trophy. For our fans, what they earn, so that's the most important thing.
“I wouldn't say it's my best season in the club if I'm honest.
'The first two seasons that came into a team that ended the year before seventh and eight, the first season I was here. I think we kept the most beautiful sheets in Europe, the second season finished third.
'Again, I think we were the most of the second in Europe, finished second. So I think that is my two best seasons in the club, in terms of form. Although I have to say, the big moments this year have certainly been a lot better than previous seasons. '
