Harry Maguire will “always be contrary” for the England squadrons of Thomas Tuchel, but the Three Lions -Baas admits that Manchester United gives the use of a back three complications of Manchester United.
Maguire was omitted from Tuchel's first party when England opened their 2026 World Cup qualification campaign with victories over Albania (2-0) and Latvia (3-0).
Ezri Konsa started both games in the middle of the center and was collaborated by Debutant than Burn against Albania and Crystal Palace-Man Marc Guehi versus Latvia.
Maguire has 64 senior caps for his country and was an important player under Gareth Southgate, in which only Harry Kane, Kyle Walker, Jordan Pickford and John Stones are used more often by the predecessor of Tuchel.
Maguire, however, missed Euro 2024 because of an injury and was also omitted from two of the three squadrons selected by Lee Carsley during his interim period last year.
Maguire has not played for United since 2 March due to a calf injury, although Tuchel says that fitness was not the only factor when it came to choosing his center backs.
“I spoke to everyone who was not on the list to give my direct feedback about my decision,” said Tuchel. “It was a close decision.
“We have chosen Marc Guehi and Ezri Konsa at the moment. I think they are a bit in a better rhythm and earn it to be with us.
“We started two right and central defense and the rest were left-wing-footers in the center of defense.
“He was also not fit when we did the nomination. It was assumed that he could play, but we did not want to nominate a player where we had to take a risk, where we had to assess in the first training or second training whether he could follow a full training session.”
Maguire has been struggling for a long time for form at club level, with United currently 13th in the Premier League and on course for their worst finish in the history of the competition.
Since Ruben Amorim came to the Red Devils last November, Maguire has played 100% of his competition minutes as the center of the center in a backline of three men.
And with Tuchel that leaves the 3-4-3 system from Southgate to implement a 4-2-3-1 shape, the German admits that this is a different consideration.
“Harry knows that it is not that easy for him in the club at the moment,” Tuchel said.
“He plays three after it, but he is a top professional and he is very important for England.
“He took it incredibly well. He wrote to me messages to wish us good luck, and you see what a person he is. He is a chief executive and he will always be contrary.”
England plays their next world cup qualification in Andorra on 7 June, before he organized Senegal in a friendly in the city of Nottingham Forest three days later.
