Midfielder De Bruyne announced last month that he will leave City when his contract ends at the end of the season, and the winning goal of the Belgian helped his side to an important three points in the race to qualify for the Champions League of next season.

De Bruyne's first finish of the low cross of Jeremy Doku lifted the city to the third in the table, four points free from Nottingham Forest in sixth place.

Before the goal, wolves had caused city problems and should have done better when they broke, but Jean -Ricner Bellegarde chose to satisfy the ball instead of shooting – however, the chance started because a sliding Marshall Munetsi was unable to get to the end of the pass.

The in-form visitors had the city rattles and were centimeters from breaking the impasse when the dangerous Rayan Ait-Nouri hit the distant pole before his sequel was cleared from the line by Josko Gvardiol.

Wolves tried to hit back in the second half and again hit the woodwork through the beaten effort of Matheus Cunha, but their six-game winning streak came to an end.
