The game is over and the final score is Man City 1-2 Man Utd. Here is the match report.
Match report
THE smallest man on the pitch won one of the worst Manchester derbies in living memory as Pep Guardiola's fallen champions continued their journey to the gorge.
With City taking the lead after 88 minutes, through Josko Gvardiol's first-half header, Diallo won a penalty converted by Bruno Fernandes before scoring a dramatic late winner.
It meant Guardiola's side have won just once in their last 11 games and now find themselves below Nottingham Forest, the only team they have beaten during this horror run, and outside the Champions League places.
For United boss Ruben Amorim, this was a remarkable win after he dumped Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho from his matchday squad in a show of early ruthlessness.
This was a Manchester derby heralded as the worst in decades and it was pretty much the worst in decades until Diallo stole the show.
Pep Guardiola's crumbling empire stood against the ancient ruins of Alex Ferguson's dynasty and for substance you could not see any world-class quality.
Two clubs that have won 21 titles in 32 Premier League seasons are currently wallowing in mediocrity.
And United can only hope that the outcome of this Manchester derby is better than the last one, when they won the FA Cup final only to make the disastrous decision to stick with Erik ten Hag.
We had met to find out which Manchester club was in worst shape: the club that had been in crisis for ten games, or the club that had been in crisis for the vast majority of the past eleven years.
United's team sheet seemed to suggest the answer: no Rashford or Garnacho, while Amorim refused to offer dodgy sick notes.
What about United's wingers? From Mason Greenwood to Antony to Jadon Sancho to these two. No wonder Amorim prefers to play without it.
Hearts were bleeding throughout City's injury list. Much more of this and Guardiola would have to start Jack Grealish for £100 million.
Either way, it had been at least 35 years since this match had felt so forlorn on both sides.
On the pre-match trams there was nostalgia for the bad old days, the City faithful reveling in past failures – the old-timers telling their children that 'one win in ten was nothing, you should have been there in the Third Division'.
After successive league defeats, United were somewhat buoyed by a Europa League victory over Viktoria Plzen, who most of us assumed was ranked seventeenth on the WTA Tour.
For half an hour all that was advertised was two bad teams, with United marginally the better.
Although it might have helped them if Diallo had been onside at any point.
Mason Mount, whose injury luck was terrible, limped off after 15 minutes and was replaced by Kobbie Mainoo.
Phil Foden, the Footballer of the Year who has not scored a goal in the Premier League all season, drilled a goal too far from twenty yards.
City were ragged and passive until they suddenly had a goal lead.
De Bruyne took a short corner to Ilkay Gundogan and a back pass before his deep cross deflected on its way to Gvardiol, who jumped behind Diogo Dalot and fired home a header.
After this brief burst of pride, City captain Kyle Walker plunged his team into shame again.
While feuding with Rasmus Hojlund, Walker went down like a bag of spuds, prompting a massive onslaught of handbags and the righteous ire of the full-back's England team-mate, Harry Maguire.
Yorkshire men are not supposed to behave like this, Maguire could have said. Although it was probably less polite than that.
Foden, looking a little more like last season's model, then squeezed past Manuel Ugarte and Lisandro Martinez before his shot was deflected wide of Maguire.
But the first half was best summed up with a schoolboy pass from Dalot across his own penalty area, which went straight to Foden, who had no control over it.
After the break the quality got even worse.
City decided to concede a free header to the smallest player on the pitch, Diallo, and Ederson had to make a full save to turn the ball around the post.
But mostly it was a constant battle for both sides to string together three passes.
De Bruyne, virtually our only hope for anything world-class, fluttered over a long-distance runner and was then substituted in favor of Mateo Kovacic.
Unexpectedly, United pulled off a coherent move.
Noussair Mazraoui made a quick run and fed Hojlund, whose excellent through ball released Fernandes.
The United captain deftly tapped Ederson, but his effort went wide of the far post.
United deserved a point. It just felt entirely possible that they would do enough good things in a row to score a goal.
Until suddenly they scored twice within two minutes.
The first was a personal disaster from Matheus Nunes, whose back pass was intercepted by Diallo.
The little guy walked around Ederson and when he turned around, the recovering Nunes was standing on his foot.
Ref Anthony Taylor pointed to the spot and Fernandes thumped home.
Marinez then delivered an expert pass from deep, and Diallo darted between City's centre-backs, lobbing Ederson and then smashing home from an ankle as Walker failed to cut the ball out.
It was terrible for the most part, but the finale was simply extraordinary.
