Man City 3-1 Club Brugge: Pep’s side fight back to keep their UCL dream alive

The fire brigade was called for a fire outside Etihad, but it was the hope of Manchester City, who almost went into smoke.

Match report

The Scoreline makes it comfortable than it was because this was an almighty fear for the men of Pep Guardiola who eventually continued in next month's play-offs. Fortunately, a fire was brought outside the stadium in one of the merchandising, but for a while the flames were fueled on another nervous night in a turbulent season.

Stadsbaas Guardiola went through the entire range of emotions, from despair when Club Brugge took an unlikely lead, was booked frustrated and then fourthly when Savinho finally brought the game to bed.

It was hardly an easy passage for the city that looks so far away from the team that the Treble won less than two years ago. Now they look vulnerable and the atmosphere of invincibility has disappeared.

Guardiola thanked everyone in a sarcastic way before the game to suggest that everyone wants to see fail. But it is probably more the fascination of how the naem's name the former European champions with the best team and best manager are in this place. Just continue in the play-offs. And the next time confronted with a potentially difficult opponent.

This is not what it should be like for the team that starts every year when the favorites of the Champions League … But it's hard to see them deliver on that tag this year.

One of those so -called supercomputers calculated at the start of the competition, there was a chance of 0.4 that the city ended on eight points and went on the first obstacle. That is what they would have confronted if they had lost.

Those opportunities probably cleared up again when Club Brugge-wing player Christos Tzolis released the left wing after an embarrassing mixture in the city defense, Guardiola left his head in his hands.

Tzolis opted for the wrong pass and City came away with it, but it was still enough to give the men of Guardiola a memory that this had all the characteristics of a dangerous night for the city. City simply has not made clear opportunities. They looked vulnerable during the break and toothless attack. It was not a good combination.

Then a disaster hit just before the break. Club Brugge reduced another attack, Ferran Jutgla led the attack forward and the Sidesteped Matheus Nunes with embarrassing ease before sending a low cross.

Club Brugge midfielder Raphael Onyedika then drilled in a brilliant shot that did not give city holder Edererson a chance and left the Etihad Shell-Shocked. Guardiola could hardly believe his eyes. The same for the crowd of the city that had been flat all night and the goal was achieved with a Stoney stilt from the home crowd.

City sent Savinho for Ilkay Gundogan during the break, but John Stones went wide from a big chance to highlight the men of Guardiola. In the end, City got itself after 53 minutes. Unbelievable, it was their first shot on goal. Mateo Kovacic ran undisputed from half the line before passing the ball in the far corner.

Mind you, while City struggled to score herself – they suddenly got a helping hand from Club Brugge to put them first. Savinho played the ball along the line, Josko Gvardiol withdrew a low cross and defender Joel Ordonez spent his own net.

Finally City could breathe a little easier. Then Savinho got a third after 77 minutes and the game was ready. Stones, with another assist, played the ball over the top, Savinho checked the ball on his chest and drilled him past keeper Simon Brugge.
