Man City bolster defence with Knaak signing

Manchester City has signed defender Rebecca Knaak from FC Rosengard.

Knaak is City's first signing during the January transfer window and has signed with the Swedish champions for a year and a half.

The 28-year-old played a key role in winning the title in 2024 and claimed the league's Defender of the Year award as Rosengard lost just one match in the league and conceded nine goals in the entire campaign.

She also scored twelve goals in the Damallsvenskan, finishing as the sixth highest scorer and only four off first place.

“It feels exciting to be here. I think the WSL is the best league in the world at the moment,” Knaak told Manchester City media outlets.

“When I heard about the interest, I didn't have to think about it because it was such a big, big opportunity that I wanted to take.

“It helped me that I already knew Therese [Sjogran, Women’s Director of Football]. I really trust her and her abilities, so it makes me feel good. The club has the highest ambitions and objectives, and this also ties in with my own ambitions.

“I am very proud and honored to be part of this great club. I can't wait to get started.”

Knaak's signing has strengthened Gareth Taylor's side, who are currently missing key players through injury, including captain Alex Greenwood, who underwent surgery last month.

City are currently second in the Women's Super League, six points behind leaders Chelsea.
