Man City boss Pep Guardiola claims he will bring his players to the best

Pep Guardiola has promised to get his players back to their best.

City saw a 1-0 lead turn into a 2-1 defeat to Manchester United in the final few minutes of Sunday's Manchester derby as our difficult run of results continued.

But Guardiola says there are elements of our normal game that aren't there, and he needs to figure out what they are to get his team back on the winning track.

“It's something we miss,” Pep said.

“When you win matches, the energy is higher. This is my job. It's not just my job to win matches and lift trophies.

“I get paid incredibly well to deal with these situations. Maybe in one or a year and a half we could have lost eight games – now in one month and ten days we have lost eight out of eleven games.

“We were top of the league and the only undefeated team in Europe [before this run].

“We are a big club; I'm here because of what we've done in the past. Otherwise clubs would not support their manager.

“All managers around the world work harder, think more and talk more. I have to tell them that we are still that good.

“I knew it would be a tough season, even when we won, but I didn't expect it to be as tough as it is now.”

The boss says he felt his team were never in full control of the match despite taking a late 1-0 lead.

He also says that there have been situations that have ended in defeat recently, while it probably hasn't happened in previous seasons.

“In the past I might have assumed that we could win with two minutes to go, but in the situation we are in, I never thought about that,” Pep said.

“It is true that we are not fluid. We always play with the composure that we no longer have after the number of games we have lost.

“Sometimes the mind helps you find strength in these types of games. We were there, but that's not what it's about.

“I'm the boss; I have to find the solution.

“This is a big club and if you lose eight out of eleven, something has gone wrong.

“I can say the schedule or injuries, but no. With a 3-0 against Feyenoord after 75 minutes, we have to win that game. Today we have to win that match.

“We're giving it away again and we have to keep working. I have to find a way to talk to them and train them to play and build up.

“Matheus made an incredible effort as a left back and played very well with and without the ball, but it happened and we move on.”
