Man City closing in on deal to sign Palmeiras centre back Vitor Reis

Manchester City are close to an agreement with Palmeiras for centre-back Vitor Reis after a breakthrough in talks on Monday.

The 19-year-old, who can also play at right-back, is valued at £34 million. City are also working this week to finalize a transfer fee for Frankfurt striker Omar Marmoush and will sign Lens defender Abdukodir Khusanov.

Palmeiras chairman Leila Pereira had confirmed that City had made an official offer last week that fell short of valuation, but talks have continued.

Palmeiras were believed to be demanding £34m for the highly-rated defender, who turned 19 on Sunday, but City's need to strengthen their defense is greater as Kyle Walker pushes for a move to Milan.

'There was an official proposal from Manchester City, but we are negotiating. I won't talk about the amount, but it has not achieved what Palmeiras wants,” the Palmeiras president said. 'But I'm in no hurry. Vitor still has a long contract. We are in discussions and if we reach a value that is good for Palmeiras, for the athlete and for Manchester, okay. But nothing has been decided yet.'

Reis also has interest from a number of clubs in Europe, including Brighton, whose bid was rejected at the beginning of this month.

City have also proposed a £56m deal with add-ons for Egyptian striker Marmoush, with talks still ongoing today.
