Manchester City have completed the signing of teenage defender Vitor Reis in a reported £29.6 million transfer from Brazilian club Palmeiras.
Reis has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with the Premier League champions and will become their second signing in January following the arrival of Abdukodir Khusanov on Monday.
The Brazilian centre-back made 22 appearances in all competitions for Palmeiras, scoring two goals and also represented his country's Under-17 side nine times.
Palmeiras had hoped to keep Reis on loan for the remainder of the season, but City have insisted he move this month due to the recent injury crisis in defence.
In addition to the season-long absence of key midfielder Rodri, John Stones and Ruben Dias have also suffered stop-start campaigns, while Nathan Ake and Manuel Akanji have picked up injuries of their own along the way.
Trouble threatened to derail their season as the champions embarked on an unprecedented run of one win in 13 games – Pep Guardiola's worst of his coaching career.
But City have now won four of their last five games in all competitions, the last of which was a 6-0 defeat to Ipswich Town in the Premier League.

Reis is the latest player to leave Palmeiras for a significant sum after Endrick made the switch to Real Madrid, while Willian Estevao also left for Chelsea.
“This is a dream come true. Ever since I was a young child, I have always dreamed of getting an opportunity like this and playing for a club as big as City,” said Reis.
“The size of Manchester City, its history and its structure. When the door knocked and it was Manchester City, I knew I had nowhere else to go.”
“Working with Pep Guardiola is something that every young player wants to do, and I know he can help me develop into the best player I can be.
“City also has a lot of experience working with Brazilian footballers and bringing players like Ederson and Savinho into the squad will be a big help for me.”
Guardiola's side are also hoping to complete a deal for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Omar Marmoush before the window closes later this month.
