Man City get lucrative helping hand from FIFA after early Champions League exit

Manchester City has missed millions as a result of their exit from Champions League, but their involvement in the FIFAs renewed Club World Cup will help to mitigate the financial blow.

City was unable to reach the last 16 of the competition for the first time since 2013 after they were eliminated by Real Madrid. The side of Pep Guardiola was aggregated 6-3 in their play-off collision against Los Blancos, with Kylian Mbappe who supplied a hat trick in the second stage.

The premature exit of City means that they have missed the £ 9.3 million prize money that they would have received from UEFA for reaching the last 16. They also missed the opportunity to earn up to £ 44 million more from European football .

However, the city is one of the 32 teams that will participate in the World Cup club next summer, with FIFA that will pay them £ 41 million for their participation. They can almost double that figure if they lift the trophy.

That will help to form the shortage that is caused this season by their Champions League -Mislukking, whereby City wants to renew their team the next summer. City was very active in the recent transfer window of January and spent great on the will of Omar Marmoush, Nico Gonzalez and Abdukodir Khusanov.

Club captain Kyle Walker also left to become a member of AC Milan on loan with an option to buy. More unrest is expected, with people like Bayer Leverkusen -star Florian Wirtz and Juventus defender Andrea Cambiaso reportedly on the radar of the city.

Guardiola has also insisted that he will continue as a manager after he has signed a new two -year contract extension in November. When asked for his future after the loss of City to Madrid, Guardiola told Movistar: “Yes, yes, yes, I'm going to stay [at City].

“We have drawn a very strong opponent at the best time of the season and when the opponent is superior. There is no other option than to congratulate them. We were not even in the photo ten or 12 years ago.

“It is a competition with many details, a very emotional competition, and I have very few complaints about how we have behaved in Europe.” City will be back in action on Sunday when they organize Premier League leaders Liverpool in the Etihad.
