Man City identify top January target after public comments on Liverpool switch

Manchester City have identified Omar Marmoush as a potential target for January, but a deal faces a number of issues.

Pep Guardiola's side have struggled so far this season and are already fourteen points behind in the race for the Premier League title. A number of signatures could potentially get them back on track and the objectives have already been identified.

Eintracht Frankfurt star Marmoush is one of them. The Egyptian is currently in the middle of a stunning campaign, with the Bundesliga already scoring 18 goals this term.

Arsenal and Liverpool are already linked and could provide tough competition. And according to the Daily Mail, the striker is also of interest to City, who have scrutinized him and been left impressed.

The 25-year-old has already spoken out about a move to the Premier League, but is not being carried away by the rumours. Speaking to Bild, he said: 'Of course you hear about it in passing.

“I'm honored that people are talking about me. That shows that I'm clearly doing it right. But in my daily life it doesn't bother me at all. My focus is solely on Eintracht Frankfurt and on being successful here.

“There is always a lot of speculation from outside. But I don't actually have a specific dream goal. What I can promise the fans is that I will give everything for Eintracht in every match. I'm not thinking about a transfer. I live in the here and now and enjoy my time in Frankfurt.

“Eintracht believed in me and put their trust in me. I want to repay that trust with good performances and goals. However, I am not interested in what happens in the distant future. I want to keep doing my best, so that at the end of the season we can say as a team: we have achieved something great.”

While any potential move for Marmoush would likely be welcome, it would not quite meet Guardiola's criteria for a potential signing. The City boss has already identified two positions he wants to strengthen first.

“We need help in some positions,” Guardiola said. “When we are all together we are the team we were, but with key players away for weeks and months it is so difficult.

“I thought center backs would be fit all season, but we have struggled. With midfield and center backs we need help. The market is the market. It's not easy, it's expensive, so we'll see what the club can do.”
