Man City make persist with deal for €60m midfielder as Barcelona wait for news

Manchester City hopes to be the big story on the Deadline Day of Transfer, with only hours to complete a big move for Porto midfielder Nico Gonzalez. After strengthening their defense with Vitor Reis and Abdukodir Khusanov and strengthening the attack with Omar Marmoush, Nico is seen as a versatile option in midfield.

Gonzalez struggled for continuity under Xavi Hernandez after he was broken into in the Barcelona team before he was on loan to Valencia. He would then be sold to Porto for € 8.44 million, but the Blaugrana has retained an option for 40% sold out costs. It is not clear whether that would be 40% of the profit of a sale or of the entire reimbursement.

City has reportedly rejected an offer of € 50 million for Nico, because they try to negotiate his price tag. So far, Porto has been steadfast when receiving his release clause of € 60 million, which would mean that Barcelona would receive somewhere between € 20.8 million and € 24 million. TBR Football says that Gonzalez has made it clear to Porto that he would like the move to continue, but ticks the time.

Pep Guardiola reportedly tried to convince Sergio Busquets to join the city for the second half of the season after the loss of Rodri Hernandez, but in Nico a La Masia midfielder would be able to do a box to-box function or a deeper function-lying role, receiving the ball from the defense.

This season, the 23-year-old 29 performances made, scored 7 times and gave 6 assists in Portugal, proof that he enjoyed a slightly more offensive role. It is the joint problems in terms of creation for Porto, and only Galeno and Samu Aghehowa have delivered more target contributions than are 13.

If Barcelona had previously received money from a deal, they might have decided to go an attacker, cited as their primary target for the January transfer window. But with Marcus Rashford now off the table, that seems unlikely.
