Rodri has returned to light training after a groin complaint and offers Manchester City hope that their midfield will be available for the start of the season.
The central midfielder was a replacement replacement during the Last-16 defeat of the Shock Club World Cup by Al Hilal and complained about huntering problems while making a comeback of a double knee injury in America.
Rodri was on display for 66 minutes at an uneven pitch in Orlando, one that the staff of Pep Guardiola made reservations, five days before being enforced in the Al Hilal match.
The 29-year-old has undergone individual sessions with fitness coaches since he returned from a summer vacation last week, but played a role in team training on Monday.
Rodri is also expected to be up to the group during an open training session for supporters at the City Football Academy on Tuesday afternoon.
The City campaign will start on August 16 against Wolves in Molineux, with Ilkay Gundogan, Tijjani Reijnders and Nico Gonzalez other current options to work at the base of midfield.
Guardiola refused to use Rodri's injury of nine months as an excuse for the city that loved last season's title race, but the performances in his absence further underline the importance of the Spaniard.
Rodri collected the balloon d'Or or still on crutches in October. He has left for his current contract for two years and City will try to negotiate an extension.
