Man City SACK manager Gareth Taylor just 5 days before Women’s League Cup final

Manchester City has made the decision to dismiss manager Gareth Taylor, only a few days in the final of the Women League Cup.

The club announced that they 'break up' on Monday evening with the 52-year-old.

Nick Cushing returns to the club on an interim basis for the rest of the season.

The news comes as somewhat a shock with City, one of only two WSL teams participating in all four competitions.

The burgers are fourth in the table, only one point outside the Champions League spots.

They are also advanced to the quarterfinals in Europe while reaching the semi -final of the FA Cup.

They have the chance to claim their first piece of silverware this Sunday when they are confronted with Chelsea in the League Cup final in the Pride Park of Derby County.

Taylor was prior to this announcement of the WSL's longest service manager, after he was appointed in May 2020.

A statement from the city was: 'Women of Manchester City said goodbye to head coach Gareth Taylor.

'Taylor has a long -standing association with Manchester City, who has both been a former player and fulfilled various roles within the Boys' Academy before he arrived at MCWFC in 2020.

'He led our ladies team to FA Cup and League Cup Success in 2020 and 2022 respectively, before he only missed last season's WSL title in the field of Doelal difference.

Speaking of Taylor's departure, director Charlotte O'Neill said: 'Manchester City is proud to compete at the top of the WSL and on his excellent record of qualification for European competition.

'Unfortunately, the results this season have not reached this high standard so far.

'With six more matches of the WSL campaign left, we believe that a change in management will breathe in a new life to ensure the qualification for the UEFA Women's Champions League 2025/26.

'We would like to inform our thanks to Gareth of all his efforts during his many years in the city.

'Our FA Cup and League Cup triumphs remain special moments in the history of this football club. We wish him the very best for the future. '
