Man City set to launch a TV show for kids, with Pep Guardiola cartoon on the cards in bid to engage younger fans
Manchester City have launched an ambitious project to focus on children's TV programmes.
The Premier League champions routinely produce in-house documentaries, from season reviews to focused pieces on individual players – with 'Together', the latest feature to win four consecutive titles, being released this week.
But after teaming up with Sony Pictures Television, City chief executive Ferran Soriano wants them to go beyond that mandate and venture into surprising areas.
These include animated, fictional programs designed to attract new and younger audiences and Mail Sport understands two children's programs are already in the works.
City have not revealed details about either, but it opens up the prospect of top stars like Erling Haaland being showcased in cartoon form.
“We have a lot of ideas that we're developing,” Soriano said. 'They are not up in the air, we are working on various fictional TV shows. We're working on shows for kids and we have a list of projects we're excited about.”
City is also keeping an eye on other non-fiction products. It is unknown which streaming platforms were looked at, although Sony does have an entertainment app on their PlayStation models.
“When we make these documentaries, we're not competing with anyone, we're the only one who has these incredible images [City Studios] team shots,” Soriano added.
“When we make fictional TV or shows, we're competing with everyone with Netflix, Amazon or whoever.
“We believe we have the creativity and insights into football to create fictional stories.
“I hope you'll see some of these on your screens in the years to come. I can say that the pipeline of projects is large and the ideas are very exciting.'
