Manchester City are considering a sensational move for Paul Pogba, with the former Manchester United star eyeing a return to football.
The French midfielder is free to return to football in March after his ban for alleged doping was reduced on appeal. He is currently a free agent after his contract with Juventus was terminated.
And City have added his name to their list of potential signings as Pep Guardiola tries to get the champions back on track. According to The Independent, City are considering options to expand their midfield in the wake of Rodri's long-term problem.
They have been linked with Pogba on several occasions, initially when he returned to Old Trafford. City were also reportedly interested in the midfielder when he was still with the Red Devil.
And while he is seen as a possible solution to the club's ongoing injury problems, Pogba's own position could be a roadblock. It is suggested that although he is keen to play at the top level again, he is reluctant to move back to Manchester.
His mixed experiences at United have also left him in doubt about a return to the Premier League. As it stands now, his preference is La Liga, Serie A or the Bundesliga.
Pogba, 31, recently dropped a major hint on social media about his future. On Instagram, he shared a timer emoji, complete with a zippered mouth and a winking face.
Pogba previously made 233 appearances for United across two separate spells, scoring 39 goals. He left Old Trafford at the end of his contract in 2022 to rejoin Juventus on a free transfer, but made just 12 appearances for the club before his suspension.
Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola recently spoke out about the January transfer window. Asked if City have any signings in the plans, he replied: “No. What I want is for my players to come back, the players we have.”
“I want the team we had at the start of the season who were competing desperately. This is the only regret I have, not having these players – not new ones.”
“We will see at the right time. The transfer market has shown how expensive players are over the past four or five years. I'm sorry, we are not the best in that area.”
He added: “If we need players, we go to the transfer market, but I don't know who is around. We know from the beginning, but Rodri is a Ballon D'Or player. We play without the best player in the world.” England last season. That's the problem.
“It's difficult. The moment he comes back, we will be strong again. We will be a good team. Sooner or later we will be back.”
