Manchester City reportedly left the race for Bayer Leverkusen who attacked midfielder Florian Wirtz, because the deal became too expensive.
Wirtz has taken 16 goals and provided 15 assists in 46 games in all competitions this period, which attracts the attention of Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Liverpool, all of whom are desperate to get hold of the German international.
Liverpool reportedly contacted representatives of the 22-year-old and may now have received a huge boost in negotiations, because the BBC reports that the deal is outside the price range of the city.
“An estimated agreement to sign the 22-year-old would represent the largest deal in the history of the city, which would possibly reach no less than 300 million euros including transfer costs and wages.
“Although there is recognition that Wirtz is one of the leading young talents in European football and is linked to Bayern Munich and Liverpool, City is concerned that the costs of the deal have been blown up too much.”
The Reds have already activated Leverkusen -defender Jeremie Frimpong's £ 30 million release clause, with their first summer signing in the coming days.
This, as well as the city, points to manager Arne Slot and sports director Richard Hughes who makes a step for the young midfielder after saving money in Slot's first two transfer penters since he took over the club in 2024.
City remains on the market for a new creative midfielder, with Morgan Gibbs-White from Nottingham Forest, the importance of manager Pep Guardiola, who, despite £ 180 million in the January window, hopes to splash the money again.
The Spaniard will have the feeling that he must rejuvenate his side that was brutally beaten in the FA Cup final during the weekend, while he prepares himself at the World Cup club in the coming months, which would have to see the team rotate after a busy season.
