Man City Women part ways with Gareth Taylor after five years, with Nick Cushing appointed interim head coach

Manchester City has separated a separate company with head coach Gareth Taylor.

The departure of Taylor comes a day after he led his side to a 2-0 FA Cup quarterfinals victory against Aston Villa to set up a semi-final against Holders Manchester United.

City is fourth in the Women's Super League, one point behind the third Arsenal that played one more match, but 12 behind Champions Chelsea.

The 52-year-old was in charge of the club since 2020 and led City to a FA Cup victory and League Cup-Succes in 2022. Under Taylor City missed the title of 2023/24 WSL for Chelsea on target difference.

City takes on Chelsea in the Women's League Cup final on Saturday to start a point of four games against the undefeated WSL-Table Toppers in 12 days.

Ex-man City Women Coach Nick Cushing will follow Taylor on an interim basis for the rest of the season.

In a statement from the club, director Charlotte O'Neil said: “Manchester City is proud to compete at the top of the WSL and on his excellent record of qualification for European competition.

“Unfortunately, the results this season have not reached this high standard so far.

“With six more matches of the WSL campaign left, we believe that a change in management will breathe new life to the qualification for the Women's Champions League of 2025/26.

“We would like to inform our thanks to Gareth of all his efforts during his many years in the city. Our FA Cup and League Cup triumphs remain special moments in the history of this football club.”

Interim Cushing was City Boss during their first WSL season in 2014, which led them to their only title profit two years later.

He also sent the team to a FA Cup and two competition cup successes before he left in 2020 to work in men's football in New York City FC, where he had been head coach for the last two seasons before he was fired in November.
