After having had an embarrassing EFL cup exit in the hands of Grimsby Town, the misery of Manchester United did not end on Wednesday evening.
The Red Devils were eliminated in the second round of the competition after losing penalties from the fourth side, after a 2-2 draw in a normal time.
It was the first time that United had ever lost to League Two -Op position in the EFL Cup and came at the end of a night in which Ruben Amorim refused to see the shooting, squatting in his dugout while the drama unfolded.
The defeat stacked more pressure on Amorim after a profit-free start of the Premier League season and represented the most humiliating cup output of United since their 4-0 Thrashing at MK Dons in 2014.
In anticipation of the Champions League group recording on Thursday, Bundesliga Side Bayer Leverkusen stacked on the criticism of United in a brutal post on social media.
They wrote on X: “I just hope we don't get Grimsby …”
