Man United confirm fans’ worst fears over Lisandro Martinez

Manchester United has confirmed that Lisandro Martinez damaged the cruciate ligament in his left knee after the Argentina defender was taken away in the defeat on Sunday against Crystal Palace in Old Trafford.

United did not put a time frame on the rehabilitation of Martinez, but it is understood that the 27-year-old can be out of operation for a maximum of six months.

A club statement was: 'Manchester United can confirm that Lisandro Martinez sustained an injury to his cruciate ligament in Sunday's game against Crystal Palace.

The World Cup winner had missed for more than three months last season due to complications with a broken midfoot ago at the end of his first campaign in England.
