Man United dealt huge Lisandro Martinez blow as injury timescale is revealed

Manchester United -defender Lisandro Martinez seems to miss the rest of the Premier League season with a serious knee injury.

The Argentina International left the 2-0 home defeat on Sunday by Crystal Palace on a stretcher and was visible in much pain.

According to TYC Sports Journalist Gaston Edell, a scan has confirmed that Martinez has torn his front cruciate ligament.

If that report is correct, it is unlikely that Martinez is completely fit again for at least six months, possibly much longer.

The injury therefore saw him miss some of the United matches next season, as well as all their remaining matches in the current campaign.

Martinez was signed by former boss Erik ten Hag, but he has since emerged as an important player for new manager Ruben Amorim.

Amorim prefers to play with a 3-4-3 formation, which means that he likes to bring his team in line with three central defenders.

But Martinez's injury seems to bring the United Squad short in that area.

It can lead to more playing time for Victor Lindelof next to Leny Yoro, Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt.

United, who is in the table 13th, still have 14 Premier League matches that remain this season.

Amorim's men are also still in the FA Cup and through the UEFA Europa League's round of 16, where they will play Real Sociedad, Galatasaray, AZ Alkmaar or Midtjylland in March.
