According to reports, Manchester United are advanced in contract talks with Amad Diallo over a new long-term deal.
Amad has been the club's best player under new manager Ruben Amorim and his derby heroics, which saw him score in Sunday's 2-1 win over Man City, have led to renewed calls from supporters for his stay to be extended.
His 90th-minute goal at the Etihad only cemented his position as an integral figure in the future of United's young team as it tries to rebuild under Amorim.
The clock is ticking with Amad's contract set to expire at the end of the season, with United having an option to extend the deal for another 12 months, but both sides are now working on a new package.
United have been in talks with the player in recent weeks and are now close to reaching a deal that will keep the 22-year-old at the club for the foreseeable future, ESPN reports.
The final details are currently being worked out, but no problems are expected if Amad puts pen to paper on a contract that will reward him for his recent achievements.
Amad is keen to stay at the club that first brought him to English football when former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer instructed United bosses to spend £37million for the Atalanta academy talent in January 2021.
First team boss Amorim is getting the best out of the youngster who broke through last season under Erik ten Hag before being dropped in favor of Antony before the Dutchman's sacking.
His efforts in training and on match day have earned him the respect of his teammates, who have been impressed by Amad's dedication to improving the club's current fortunes.
He has provided two goals and six assists this season and has offered United's new manager versatility by impressing in a right-back role and also further up the pitch, where his pace and guile have become a nightmare for defenders.
Club captain Bruno Fernandes hailed Amad as 'unstoppable' after his crucial contribution to United's derby win at the Etihad and insisted there is still more to get from the Ivorian.
“He has done great things and there is much more to come. He is always active, always alive and that is why he gets the penalty and his goal,” he told BBC Sport at the time.
“He's been brilliant but I don't have to say much because we need to keep him going because we need him at this level. That way he can't be stopped.
'He wants more. If you do the right things, you get your chances, you get goals, you get momentum,” Fernandes added.
'He's been very good to us. I want to keep him under the radar so that he plays more and more, because I want Amad to do this every match.
'We know we have a quality team, but not everyone has shown their quality at their best.'
