Man United scrap awards dinner, prizes to be given before final home game

According to reports this year, Man United will not keep awards dinner at the end of the season.

In a tradition that dates more than a decade, Man United usually participates in prizes in their men's, women's and academy team players in a Black-Tie Soiree.

That includes the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year Award, previously won by Cristiano Ronaldo, Ryan Giggs and Roy Keane. It was won last season by Bruno Fernandes and is expected to be retained this year by the club captain.

But according to The Times, the gloomy Premier League season of Man United, which has recorded 17 defeats and sees only two places above the relegation places in the 16th, Old Trafford Chiefs convinced to abandon the Gala event.

Instead, prizes on the field are distributed before the last Premier League match of the season, against Aston Villa.

It is just the last in a series of austerity measures of the man United -Hierachy. Manager Ruben Amorim is reportedly thege to pay for 30 of his back room staff and their families to attend the Europa League final against Tottenham in Bilbao next week after the club refused to offer additional tickets.

And if Amorim's side ends the season at a peak by lifting the European silverware, the club is said to not keep an open-top bus parade by Manchester, but only a retained barbecue on their training ground.

It is not the first time that Man United has decided to cancel their Awards dinner. They did last season when Erik ten Hag's side finished eighth and after the 2021-22 season, when they finished sixth.

The Red Devils still have two league games, but are already guaranteed the season in their lowest position in the history of Premier League.

The report explains that the Old Trafford decision makers are of the opinion that throwing an extravagant event would be a bad look in a year in which the club has undergone an aggressive cost -saving drive, including reducing the number of employees of 1,100 to around 700.

Just as with the decision not to plan a trophy parade, the tight schedule of the club has also been a factor.

Immediately after their last game of the season, the entire first team flies on a tour after the season through Asia.

They play on May 28 in Kuala Lumpur before another match in Hong Kong on 30 May and then the players have to report immediately for international service.
