Man United set to raid Mercedes’ F1 team for data supremo Michael Sansoni

Manchester United will invade the Mercedes F1 team while setting up the data analysis at the club.

Mail Sport understands that the Premier League outfit in advanced conversations with Michael Sansoni, senior performance simulation engineer at Motorsport Giants in Brackley, is about a sport switch.

United has identified a number of improvement areas under a broad assessment by co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his Ineos team after their arrival in January.

Data analysis was quickly emphasized as an area that needed urgent attention, and it seems that the group has turned to a familiar face as part of their rebuilding.

Ineos are a third equal shareholder of Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 and a main partner for the team.

Although the switch can lift eyebrows, it is thought that, according to insiders, it is seen as a 'movement between the family'.

Sansoni, who graduated from Southampton with a BENG Aeronautics and Astronautics in 2015, is responsible for the fact that the cars driven by George Russell and Kimi Antonelli deliver the best possible performance. He is ready to take a senior data position at Old Trafford.

In an interview with the student newspaper of his old university, he explained: 'My role is to ensure that we start the track test on the Friday of a racing weekend with the car in the best position in terms of general performance. Otherwise it is a very long Friday night to return to where we should be. After the event it is a lot of correlation work. We go back and look at the real physics and the behavior of the car and whether the models were accurate or that there are areas that we can improve. It is a process of continuous improvement. '

It is thought that United officials believe that many Sansoni's skills can be transferred from Formula 1 to football.

In an interview with Fanzine United we are in December, Ratcliffe opened the situation within the data department. “Until we are as good as someone in the world, then it's not good enough for Manchester United,” he said. 'We must have the best recruitment in the world. Data analysis comes alongside recruitment. It doesn't really exist here. We are still here in the last century about data analysis.

'There is a huge amount of useful data that we can get from data analysis and we are in the' very bad 'bracket with data analysis here. These things do not happen from one day to the next. '

Data analysis is not the only area reserved for change. In January United brought in the legendary Decathlon coach Harry Marra to improve the players' speed. The 78-year-old American supervised a number of training sessions for a five-week period.

Both Manchester United and Mercedes refused to comment.
