A former coach of Manchester United has sensationally claimed that Matthijs de Ligt is 'too heavy', which influences his performance on the field.
Rene Meulensteen served as a coach of the first team in United between 2007 and 2013 during the last phases of the legendary regime of Sir Alex Ferguson at the club.
And the Dutchman has insisted that his countryman De Ligt must improve the consistency of his performance at Old Trafford.
“The form of Matthijs de Ligt is a concern because consistent versions and leadership are not a week in, week out are guaranteed.” Meulensteen told Coinpoker.
'He had a considerable number of injuries last year and was not always a first-choice player for Ruben Amorim.
'When he first came to the fore at Ajax, he was a strong athlete, but I believe that he has become a bit too heavy over time, which has not always benefited his game, despite his naturally strong build. This will be a critical season for him.
“It will be interesting to see which formation Amorim implements at Manchester United, given the number of central options.”
