Man United stars link up with Wigan Warriors players

Wigan Warriors have picked the brain of Manchester United stars while they plan a return to Old Trafford.

The men of Matt Peet will start on Thursday with their Super League title defense with a 'Battle of the Borough' against local rivals Leigh Leopards.

And for their season opener, the Warriors spent time with United Trio Harry Maguire, Mason Mount and Andre Onana on their grounds for training.

The football players participated in a crossbar challenge, passing exercises and a finishing clinic, with a willing mountain that also invited to have a wrestling match with gigantic kiwi -pin paddy Mago, but was told that it was a joke just before they were struggling.

“I am an Everton fan, so I didn't jump through hoops to see them all!” allowed Wigan Half-Back Harry Smith. “But I managed to talk to them about how they do their daily business.

“The differences with us were interesting and something you can try to learn.”

Warriors head coach Matt Peet is a United fan and let Sir Alex Ferguson also give a Peptalk to his team on the eve of last season's grand finale in Old Trafford.

“We thought it was a great opportunity and we maximized it,” said Peet about the visit of the Red Devils players. 'The three boys who came down were very broad -minded.

“They seemed like they were admirers of the sport. I hope they come to a game. '

While United claimed a piece of silverware last season, Wigan completed a clean sweep of all four major trophies.

The Warriors can only win the Challenge Cup, League Leaders' Shield and Grand Final this campaign, without not being offered World Club.

But Peet added: 'We can no longer win trophies, but I do think we can be a better team. We want to play a better brand of rugby and we want to improve as people. '

The legendary boxing caller Michael Buffer will be with Wigan's Curtain Raiser tonight and supervise Las Vegas-style weddings in a pop-up 'Las Wigan Chapel' at the DW stage. It is a nod to the historic Super League match of the Warriors against Warrington in Vegas next month.

“I will definitely show my face and look at it,” Peet added. “I am completely in favor of embracing everything that this game will pass.”
