Match report
The Frenchman, who had missed a glorious opportunity to open the score in the first half, made no mistake with his chances in the second to secure the three points.
In the 64th minute, Mateta was present to bundle in a rebound up close after Maxcence Lacroix had hit the free kick of Ebereechi Eze against the bar.
He then punished United, who had pushed bodies forward in search of an equalizer, with another minute over, neatly lock that Daniel Munoz's low cross along Andre Onana neatly locked to finish a sizzling counterattack.
Kobbie Mainoo saw a bent strike at the start of the game for United tipped at the post, with Bruno Fernandes also forced a good savings from Henderson in the second half. However, the hosts saw unlikely that Palace Palace, who defended bankrupt everywhere.
Palace Leapfrog United in the table and moved to the 12th at 30 points, while the side of Ruben Amorim, who has only won two of their last seven home competition matches, are now one point and one place among them.

Data Debrief: At home away from home
Palace looked comfortable during Sunday's game, and it is no surprise given their recent dominance against United in Old Trafford.
After they have won any of their first 10 visits to Old Trafford in the Premier League, a point with nine straight defeats (D1), the Eagles have now won four of their last six road games against United (L2) and have recovered –back Back visitors for the second time in the competition.
Mateta's recent hot streak also went further – no player scored more Premier League goals in 2025 than his six (level with Chris Wood and Phil Foden). Since the beginning of last season, he has even scored 26 times.
However, there are worrying signs for United. They have now lost seven of their first 13 competition home games this season, their joint in this phase of a competition campaign, together with 1893-94 (also seven in 13).
