Monaco star Maghnes Akliouche was asked about his future amidst the interest of Manchester City, Manchester United and PSG and offered a surprising reaction for the summer
Maghnes Akliouche could stay in Monaco this summer despite the interest of both Manchester City and Manchester United. The 23-year-old has revealed that he hopes to stay with the Monegasques for next season in one fell swoop for the Premier League clubs.
Akliouche has attracted interest after caring of five goals and providing 10 assists in Ligue 1 this season, in addition to two goals and two assists in the Champions League. The wing player has helped Monaco's bid to be eligible for the top competition of Europe again, whereby a third placed finish in his own country is cemented at Leat.
The Frenchman was the subject of interest from Paris Saint-Germain, as well as the city, almost 12 months ago, but chose to sign a contract extension instead and to commit himself to the club until 2028. The duo would keep their interest with United now also impressed by the player.
But Akliouche seems satisfied in Monaco and is planning to stay in the club after the summer. However, the attacker is considered € 70 million (£ 57 million).
“I am under contract with Monaco and I hope I will be here next season, why not?” He said.
Monaco CEO Thiago Scuro was adamant potential lovers who would not have the star easy. In conversation with Téléfoot earlier this year, he seemed to control a hard bargain.
“It makes sense that clubs are interested in him. He is a Monaco player and it will not be easy to remove him here,” he said.
Manager Adi Hütter, however, has admitted the possibility to lose Akliouche. The Austrian head coach admitted that it is the philosophy of the club to take advantage of their talent and he is enthusiastic about where the career of his indictment could lead.
“I am encouraged to see where he (Akliouche) can go. We don't know what happens to me. If we lose it in the summer, we will lose him in the summer,” he said last month.
“This is also the club's strategy to bring young talents from its own academy to the first team and at one point to sell them – this is the plan of the club and it is a good one! This is the process as a coach. I want to follow (Akliouche). This is the history of the club and I like it!”
City and United will both look to strengthen their squadrons in the summer after disappointing seasons. Pep Guardiola's silk seems to qualify for the Champions League, but have been noticeably absent in the title race.
Ruben Amorim will meanwhile supervise his first summer that the leadership is in charge. In a disastrous Premier League campaign, United's only chance to qualify for Europe is to find the success of Europa League when they beat Tottenham.
