Manchester United have been told by a former Premier League star not to bring Viktor Gyokeres to the club due to a major flaw in his play.
The Swedish striker is Europe's leading goalscorer in 2024. His stunning performances at Sporting Lisbon saw him score 60 goals for both club and country in the calendar year.
His ridiculous goalscoring record since moving to the Portuguese club from Coventry last year has caught the attention of Premier League hopefuls and the arrival of Ruben Amorim at Man United has only added fuel to the fire.
Amorim got the best out of Gyokeres during their time together at Sporting. The forward helped the club to the Portuguese top title in his first season and has scored 26 goals in 24 games this season.
So far, the newly appointed United boss has remained tight-lipped in his attempts to lure Gyokeres away from his former team, with Arsenal also linked with the striker.
However, Watford and Premier League icon Troy Deeney believes both clubs would be making a mistake by spending a huge sum to secure Gyokeres' services.
Deeney has scored 47 Premier League goals in 165 appearances for Watford but is unconvinced by Gyokeres' finishing and stressed his belief that the 26-year-old is not a 'natural finisher'.
“You know if you say something the clip will come back in six months,” Deeney told talkSPORT.
'I really think he's a good footballer, he works very hard, all that. But I don't think he's a natural finisher.'
Deeney went on to explain that Manchester United and Arsenal will have no chance of winning the Premier League title if they sign Gyokeres, and urged caution when deciding whether to make a bid.
'And again, everyone is going to increase their goals record, I understand that. But I don't think he needs either of those to win the Premier League,” Deeney added.
“That's just my opinion and if he had they would have bought him already,” the former Watford captain added.
Should United ignore Deeney's advice and continue with their recruitment efforts for Gyokeres, they will have to sell a raft of players to comply with profit and sustainability regulations.
Marcus Rashford could be sold for just £40million in the January transfer window, while summer signing Joshua Zirkzee is touted for an early exit from Old Trafford.
The biggest decision would be over the future of young Danish striker Rasmus Hojlund, with United paying £72 million for him last year and believing the 21-year-old could lead the team's attack in the long term.
Hojlund has taken time to convince Amorim he is up to the task but has now scored six goals in his last five appearances and is expected to start Sunday's derby against Man City.
