Manchester United are considering making a move for Chelsea and Tottenham target Patrick Dorgu.
The 20-year-old left back, who was recently crowned Denmark's Young Player of the Year, is expected to leave Italian side Lecce at the end of the season.
And United sent club representatives to Italy to watch the highly-rated star last weekend as Lecce grabbed a late draw against Juventus thanks to an injury-time equalizer.
Ruben Amorim is keen to strengthen at left-back and Dorgu, who recently operated as a right winger, is the latest player to come under scouting checks.
Sources believe the Red Devils also kept an eye on Juventus' attacking star Kenan Yildiz during the match.
It is believed that Leece rejected approaches from both Chelsea and Tottenham for Dorgu during the summer transfer window, which fell short of their valuation.
The big-spending Blues considered signing the versatile defender and loaning him to sister club Strasbourg to aid his development, although the discussions did not bear fruit.
Dorgu, who has scored three goals in 13 Serie A appearances this season, is expected to cost up to £35m but Lecce chief Pantaleo Corvino has already ruled out a January sell-out, telling Gazzetta dello Sport earlier this week: “So' one player has admirers. , Naturally. And for him there are certainly many, also abroad. But Dorgu will stay here and then, in the summer, we will talk about it because his fate is certain. The future is his.”
However, the talented Dane isn't the only name on United's radar amid Luke Shaw's ongoing injury problems. Bayern Munich's Alphonso Davies, Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez and Benfica star Alvaro Carreras – a Carrington academy graduate – are also on their radar.
United appear ready to play the long game with Davies, who is still in talks with Bayern over a contract extension, but an agreement is yet to be struck between the parties.
Reports in Germany this week suggest Bayern have made progress in negotiations with the Canada international over new terms, but United and Real Madrid are both monitoring developments from a distance and could enter formal talks with Davies in January, when he will complete his final six months of his deal.
The 24-year-old, who has long been open to a move to the Premier League, ticks many boxes, but his salary demands could prove problematic for United if he wants to leave Bayern on a free transfer, while INEOS continues to implement various cost-cutting measures. in an attempt to get their finances in order.
It is understood that the scouting of Kerkez has been an extensive process that began long before Amorim's appointment, but interest has not gone beyond that at this stage.
Meanwhile, ex-United star Carreras was sold to Benfica last summer in a deal worth around £7.5m, including add-ons, but crucially the Red Devils have a buy-back clause worth just £17m, while the Spaniard continues to flourish. Lisbon.
