Man Utd ‘explore’ sensational David de Gea transfer as Andre Onana issued warning

Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea was associated with a sensational return to Old Trafford after Red Devil's Boss Ruben Amorim had given a warning to Andre Onana

Manchester United is said to weigh a shock movement for former goalkeeper David de Gea. The Spaniard spent 12 years in Old Trafford and made a total of 545 performances in all competitions, so that they helped the Premier League, Europa League, FA Cup and two competition cups.

De Gea left United in 2023 after his contract had passed, with Erik ten Hag decided to replace him with Andre Onana. After spending a season as a free agent, the Gea came to Fiorentina in 2024 and the 34-year-old made an impression in Italy.

After Fiorentina finished sixth last season to end and qualify for the Conference League, De Gea signed a new contract that runs until 2028. However, the Sun reports that his new deal contains a release clause with which he can leave for a 'relatively small sum'.

The report states that United is considering a potential return for the GEA after being 'tipped' over the clause. De Gea recently returned to Old Trafford with Fiorentina for a pre-season friendly and teased that their “paths could cross again”.

After a framed photo presented by United Captain Bruno Fernandes, De Gea wrote on social media: “A magical moment for me and my family to come back to Old Trafford – my house.

“From the ground of my heart – I want to thank you for the reception – for all the love you showed me. To the supporters who have never stopped being with me during my time at this club. Our paths can cross again.”

Onana did not succeed in convincing since he came to United from Inter Milan and Ruben Amorim, the goalkeeper recently warned that his place is being threatened as number 1. “Andre is just like the other players,” Amorim told Arsenal prior to the United opening match.

“They all have to win their place, so I'm not going to say if a player is number 1. He is ready to go to the game, so let's wait. As a coach and the players can do better than last year – and I have full confidence in that.”

Onana has admitted 148 goals in his two seasons at United and the Red Devils have so far linked to a number of potential replacements this summer. However, they have focused primarily on strengthening their attack.

More than £ 200 million has been spent on Forward's Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, while Teenage left back Diego Leon has also joined Cerro Poreno.
