Manchester United does Hush-Hush checks about a remarkable return for custodian and club legend David de Gea.
The Red Devils are tipped that the Spaniard, 34, has a clause in his deal in Fiorentina – so that he can leave for a relatively small sum.
Now discreet background calls are being done after the Gea has made a good impression on his return to Old Trafford for a friendly last weekend and fans told that their “paths can cross again”.
In anticipation of their opener with Arsenal, Baas Ruben Amorim Andre Onana has ruled as to whether he will be his number 1 this period.
Amorim said: “It's just like the other players. They all have to win their place. I'm not going to say if a man is number one.”
De Gea appeared 545 performances for United between 2011 and 2023, making him seventh on their list of all time.
But a dip in shape and a contract conflict led to his exit, then former boss Erik ten Hag paid £ 43.8 million in Inter Milan for Onana.

He received a framed photo from former teammate Bruno Fernandes during a pre-season-friendly, who ended 1-1, between United and Fiorentina.
De Gea then placed on Instagram: “A magical moment for me and my family to come back to Old Trafford – my house.
“From the ground of my heart – I want to thank you for the reception – for all the love you showed me.
“To the supporters who have never stopped being with me during my time at this club. Our paths can cross again.”
Cameroon International Onana is expected to start against the Gunners on Sunday, despite the missing of the whole of the season with a hamstring injury.
United is linked to different keepers this summer, which leads to speculation that it can be replaced.
Among them are Emi Martinez of Aston Villa, Gianluigi Donnarumma of Paris Saint-Germain and John Victor from Botafogo.
Amorim, however, showed confidence in the former inter man during a number of difficult times last season and no new stop was signed this summer.
The Portuguese added: “He is ready to go to the game. Let's wait. You will know on Sunday.
“As a coach, the players who were here last year, we can do better. I have full confidence in that.”
Onana returned to the training at the beginning of the week after the beginning of July an injury.
