Manchester United is considering their keeping options while weighing a movement for Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, who is impressed by Torino, but once in the club's books
Manchester United weighs a movement for Vanja Milinkovic-Savic while considering their goalkeeper options. Andre Onana has not inspired and although he is expected to stay, following a new backup next season – but Manchester City and Chelsea are also in the race.
The Torino goalkeeper has held 11 clean sheets for the Mid-Table Serie A-Outfit and has attracted the attention of some of the most important parties of the Premier League, Tutto Mercato reports. The goalkeeper's contract with Torino runs until 2026 and contains a release clause worth € 20 million (£ 16.9 million).
United once had Milinkovic-Savic in their books, but was unable to sort a work permit and had to release him. In May 2014, United reached an agreement to sign the goalkeeper from Vojvodina, making them only £ 2 million shy. He remained on loan for a different season, but never really appeared for the Red Devils.
After he had not had to earn a work permit to play in England, Milinkovic-Savic was released in November 2015 and he signed a contract of four and a half years with the Polish club Lechia Gdansk, before he later moved to Italy.
The Serbian has said in his own future: “I have learned that setting goals is not positive, it is better to do things with the lights. In all teams there are replacements of players who are sold and bought, the most important thing is to find the right players to strengthen the team.”
Torino's President Urbano Cairo has spoken and confirmed that no bid has been made yet: “He had a big championship and it is normal for him to get a lot of attention, but no offer has yet been broken.”
Onana was signed two years ago by Erik ten Hag as a replacement for David de Gea – after the club allowed him to leave at the end of his contract. The power of the Cameroon Shotstopper with his feet was seen as a huge bonus, but he has made countless mistakes that led to goals in both seasons in Manchester.
Questions hang over him in what is a huge summer for Ruben Amorim, who must be ruthless if his stint at Old Trafford is a success. The keeper was recently fell by his coach, but was quickly reinstalled if the club No. 1 after less than a week.
Altay Bayindir is expected to leave as he goes to his turkey ambitions for more minutes and a return to his home country is on the cards. Tom Heaton – the third choice of the club – lets his contract end at the end of the season without a decision about his future, but there is an expectation that the veteran stopper could retire.
