Mo Salah learns senior stars’ ‘opinion’ on his FSG revelation and ‘huge’ Liverpool demands

Mo Salah is said to have the support of senior football stars amid his contract impasse at Liverpool.

The Egyptian icon, 32, has underlined his importance to Reds with a fantastic start to the season, but his long-term future at Anfield remains uncertain as his contract expires in the summer. Salah has been intriguingly open about the situation.

After last weekend's 3-2 win at Southampton, he revealed he had not yet received an offer to stay from owners FSG and was “probably more out than in”. Contract talks have taken place amid suggestions Salah's representatives have made “huge” demands.

Salah's latest signing statement has raised eyebrows in some quarters, with Jamie Carragher calling the timing 'selfish'. However, according to The Independent, Salah's position is “respected” by senior players, who understand his desire to use his influence and get the most out of what could be the last contract of his career.

Salah is one of three key Liverpool players who will soon enter the final six months of their contracts, with Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold also out of contract this summer. All three will be free to speak to foreign clubs in January if they do not sign an extension before then.

Asked if he was disappointed not to have received an offer from Liverpool, Salah added: “Of course, yes. I love the fans. The fans love me. Ultimately, it's not in my hands, nor in the hands of the fans. Let's wait and see.

“I'm not retiring anytime soon so I'm just playing, focusing on the season and trying to win the Premier League and hopefully the Champions League too. I'm disappointed but we'll see.”

Liverpool boss Arne Slot insists the Salah situation is not a distraction as the Reds sit eight points clear at the top of the Premier League.

“All I can say is that when I look at my line-up, Mo is more in than out,” the Dutchman said ahead of Sunday's clash with champions Manchester City.

“I don't think it distracts Mo at all, maybe it even brings out the best in him when you look at his performances so far. As I've said a few times, my focus is on the next game and there's another big game coming up that just keeps going.”
