Former Premier League Whistler Mark Halsey has branded Var “embarrassing” after the 2-2 draw of Everton with Manchester United.
The toffees were denied a final gasp fine after a controversial VAR intervention on Saturday afternoon.
Ashley Young went into the box after a shirt pull from Matthijs de Ligt, with referee Andy Madley who initially pointed to the place.
Var Matt Donohue ordered Madley to assess his decision – before the wrong images were shown on the pitchside monitor.
Former Prem ref Halsey said Sunsport: “The decision to destroy a fine at Everton at the end of their 2-2 draw with Manchester United was clearly wrong.
“Var Matt Donohue should not have been involved because the call from referee Andy Madley was in no way a clear and obvious mistake.
“The shirt from Ashley Young was drawn – and when an opponent does that in the penalty area, he asks for problems.
“When Madley went to the monitor on the advice of VAR, he then got to see the wrong images.
“The Premier League competition center placed on social media that Harry Maguire's challenge had been checked on Young and that no mistake had been committed.
“But they didn't take into account that Matthijs de Ligt had withdrawn young to the shirt.
“And if Madley statues were shown filmed from behind the goal he would have seen this.
“The incident was embarrassing.”
Everton led 2-0 during the rest thanks to goals from Beto and Abdoulaye Doucoure.
But United fought back after the break and went through Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte.
Relieved Red Devils -Baas Ruben Amorim claimed that the decision not to grant a fine was fair.
Amorim said: “No, I think it's a soft touch, it wasn't [a penalty] From what I saw.
“I think it was a soft fine, that was clear.
“If you start the game without the first half, it was a good point, but we needed the three points.”
But smoking Everton manager David Moyes hit the officials after his side was refused back-to-back Premier League victories.
Moyes jerked: “I can't understand. [De Ligt] pulled his sweater.
“I just thought the referee made the right decision at the time and he should stay with it.
“I think everyone who watches football, we all look forward to seeing a referee:” No, no, I stay with it “.
'If it is absolutely clear and clear, that is what we have VAR for, but I didn't think it had to be involved.
